Outline: Retreat of Silence
Read through John 13-17.
TRUST.
Matthew 6:8 (NASB) "So do not be like them: for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him."
BEING UNDERSTOOD.
Romans 8:26,27 (NIV) In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
CONFIDENCE.
1 John 5:14,15 (NIV) This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him.
PEACE.
Philippians 4:6,7 (NIV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
WISDOM FOR TODAY.
James 1:5,6 (NIV) If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
WISDOM TO WORK, FIXING OUR EYES ON CHRIST.
Hebrews 12:1,2 (NIV) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
STRENGTH.
Psalm 119:50 (NIV) My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.
UNDERSTANDING; PERSPECTIVE ON HIS KINGDOM
John 16:33 (NIV) "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
Seek guidance. What are my hopes? What hindrancees might I need to leave behind? What hopes are for my best and what am I clinging to that I should not?
